Voces Solis is honored to present the East Coast premiere of El Mesías: Handel’s Messiah for a New World alongside Chatham Baroque. This work presents Handel’s iconic Messiah score with a carefully and beautifully crafted Spanish-language libretto by Mario Montenegro. While preserving and revealing the spiritual meaning of this masterwork, it lends the stunning warmth and musicality of the Spanish language.

In a moment of cultural importance for our communities, this work bridges time and culture to explore dramatic and universal themes that connect us to our shared humanity. Join Voces Solis and Chatham Baroque for the Pittsburgh premiere of El Mesías. 

Proceeds from this performance will benefit programs at Casa San Jose.

Voces Solis presents Winter Hymns, a concert featuring the world premiere of Sarah Kirkland Snider’s Choral Suite from Hildegard, alongside Shara Nova’s Winter Hymns, Paola Prestini’s A Triptych for our Time, and Holst’s Choral Hymns from the Rig Veda. 

Through stark dissonances and warm harmonies, this concert explores the duality of winter: bleak landscapes, long nights, and promises of brightness ahead.  From the natural winter imagery of Shara Nova’s Winter Hymns to the exploration of human existence in Paola Prestini’s A Triptych for our Time, the music offers an opportunity to savor winter as a sacred season of rest and quiet contemplation.

Voces Solis presents Ein Deutsches Requiem by Johannes Brahms, a powerful and deeply human choral masterwork. The Requiem explores themes of consolation, hope, and eternal peace focusing on we who are left behind rather than on the soul of the departed. Opening with the promise, 'Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted,' the listener is offered a lighted path through the dark valley of grief. These performances will present Brahms’ own arrangement for chamber choir and piano four hands.

Interlacing quiet reflections with powerful, dramatic moments, Brahms guides us through a journey of loss, remembrance, and renewal. Rather than praying for those we have lost, this work aims to bring comfort to the living, affirming the promise of eternal life in the face of mortality.
